Research is its deed. In between gathering materials and researching to reach the greatest advantage. Alchemist has the ability to make potions and to summon creatures in battles.

Active in fields from ancient biotechnology to combining and creating mixtures, he/she joins the adventurers recruited by King Tristan III to perfect his/her biotechnology, and in the end, to successfully summon a Homunculus. The potions he/she makes have much better effects than those sold in stores.

The advanced biotechnology also allows summonning of monsters that will help you. He/She continuously gathers materials and researches up to this day, amongst the many adventurers, in order to create biotechnology's greatest advantages, homunculus.

Stat Description
Str If you plan to be a battle build of some kind, get this and plenty of it. 80 - 110 is a good range of where you should locate your str if you're a battle build; just remember, always a multiple of 10. You'll want to carry around as many potions as possible, and you can have superb damage output via Mammonite, given ample attack speed to couple your strength. In most scenarios, a high str build will find leveling to be a much easier task as well.
Agi Alchemists have no skills that raise attack speed, so you'll most likely want a good amount of agility to make up for that if you're fond of Mammonite, or simply PvM. Alchemists have good base attack speed with swords and daggers, and high agility with an axe or mace and Adrenaline Rush is great fun. And when you do get hit, you've got plenty of potions to make up for it, even if they won't heal for very much without some vitality.
Vit A great stat for Alchemists, seeing as how it stacks with Potion Research and Aid Potion. Each point of vit raises the effectiveness of Aid Potion by 4%. So even if you have an agility based build in mind, getting a small amount of vit is a great idea. Who wants to Aid Potion themselves for under 100 with a red! With enough of vitality, there will be little that's capable of easily felling you.
Int If you're going to be a battle build, don't get int. You eat through your sp rather quickly making potions, and tossing acid bottles rips through it as well, especially if you're in a Magic Strings. But in both situations, either Blessing and Magnificat will be readily available, or using Blue Aid Potions is justifiable. A build with 1 base int, with Blessing, will already have 18 int; landing squarely on a regen bonus. This is more than enough for a battle build, as the stat points would be better spent enhancing your melee capabilities. If you plan on using the spell swords, either as a boost to your physical melee damage, or as a means of leveling a brewer, then a moderate to high amount is admissible. Each point of int provides a small boost to potion success rates, at .05% per point of int. As this is only really noticable if you get a large amount of int, don't bother boosting it to increase your rates unless you're going to be a brewer. However, this changes after you rebirth your Alchemist, if you plan to take advantage of a Biochemist's Acid Demonstration.
Dex This stat assists in numerous ways. First, it boosts your potion creation success rate, with a .1% increase per point of dex. Secondly, it does the obvious; increases your accuracy, damage, and attack speed. Considering Mammonite and Cart Revolution have no hit bonuses, it's important to get a good amount of dexterity to compensate for that. Additionally, your cast time is lowered. A lower cast time equates to more acids, bombs, summons, and quicker coatings in the midst of battle, and the last thing you want is for your skill to be cancelled. If you try wearing a Phen to prevent this, keep in mind that will raise your casting time, and as such you need a hefty amount of dexterity to bring it back down to a reasonable time. In WoE, a Phen is not an option, and it's not often you won't find yourself under attack. So despite the low casting time of most skills, having the fastest possible cast is important. An essential stat, so don't neglect it.
Luk Alchemists have no luk bonus, so you'll have to rely entirely on normal status points and equipment to boost it. If you've got a Priest with Gloria at your beck and call, you can enjoy the extra 30 luck, so even if you want to get luck to help with making potions you won't have to get that much of it. Each point of luk raises your potion success rate by .1%. An extra lucky dodge or two and some more criticals are always nice as well, and the added status effect resistence boost is quite beneficial. A good place to put the left over points after a build has been designed.

[edit] How to become an Alchemist

Alchemist Job Quest

You can change jobs to an Alchemist in Al De Baran. Talk to the union member inside the Alchemist Union, located in 7 o'clock direction of the city, to apply. When applying, you must submit a certain item along with Zeny. The Alchemist quest consists of tests on the subject of alchemy. If you successfully finish each course of the quest in the basement of the Alchemist union, talk to the Master Alchemist to be able to change jobs to an Alchemist. You must be Job Lv 40 or higher to apply.

1. Look for Parmry Gianino, Talk to her to apply. She will tell you the admission instructions.

You need to bring her 100 Mini Furance (can be bought from Blacksmith Shop in Geffen 5 o'clock position, it is wise to buy 5 more as it is needed later in the quest). The admission fee is 50,000z, alternatively, you may bring her an Old Magicbook and a Hammer of Blacksmith to waive the fees. Once you done that, you can go to Rasputin Gregory to take the math test.

2. When you warp to Rasputin Gregory , he will give you test question, after this you can go now to Darwin.

In this test, you have to asnwer some mathematical questions. Each question worth 10 points. You must get at least 80 points to pass this test. The first time you take the test, there are only 8 questions. So that mean you must get perfect to pass. If you failed the first time, the re-test will consist of 11 questions which means it allow more rooms for wrong answers.

Note: If you are at job level 50, he will let you skip this test and direct you to Darwin for the next test.

3.Darwin the third NPC that will give instruction.

He will ask you to bring him some items. After you gave him the items he want, he will teach you how to make medicine. Then it will be your turn to make medicine using the procedures he just showed to you. Just use common sense to pick the steps to pass this part of the test. If you mess any of the steps, you will have to get another set of the material to make the medicine again. Once you passed, you can advance to the next test which is given by Van Helmont in the next room.

4.Van Helmont, he ask you question about Counteragent.

Van Helmont will tell you to learn from Morgenstein in Geffen. That is, you are supposed to do the Mixture and Counteragent Quest as a part of the alchemist job quest. You do not have to bring him what Morgenstein made, but you have to get Morgenstein to tell you about Mixture and Counteragent before you come back to him.

You have to 'Ask about research' when Morgenstein asks you what do you want. If you have already done this quest before, you can just talk to Van Helmont to get to the question and answer part.When you are done and come back to Van Helmont, he will ask you a few questions to make sure you learnt about Mixture and Counteragent.

5.Nicholas Flamel

First he will give you a word scramble test. You have to choose the word that is IN the letters he present. You must get all 4 questions right to pass.Talk to him again to take this part of the test. He will give you a few items, keep them as you will need them for the next part. He asks you to go help the Bain and Bajin brothers in Yuno with their research. So just take the items and head there.

After you are done with part 1 and part 2, talk to him again and he will tell you to go to the Union Leader to change job.

6.Vincent Carsciallo

This is the moment of truth, talk to him and he'll change you into an alchemist! You will also get a useful guide book depending on your job level.

Force

Once you attain the proper level, you can change from Merchant to the Alchemist Class by finding the Job Master located at Prontera (153,193).
